"How are you today?"
"Terrible."
Mr G explained he had woken up today very achy and could not walk in the morning because of the pain. He invited us to his wonderfully arranged living room with mid-century modern furniture acquired at car boot sales and skilfully renovated by Mr G himself. On the table laid two smart devices, both with issues with WhatsApp.
The iPhone had recently lost all of Mr G's conversation history after the latest app or OS update carried out by another person. The Samsung tablet, on the other hand, was not synchronised with the phone anymore.
We linked both devices in the WhatsApp app and switched off the split-screen view, which Mr G treated with utmost contempt. Sevan reestablished Mr G's favourite setting that looked way more tidy to our beneficiary. We checked the other app settings and, to Mr G's dismay, we discovered he didn't have the chat backup enabled. That meant we were not able to restore his WhatsApp conversation history.
"I shouldn't have let someone else touch my phone", he lamented.
Altering the past was one of the few skills we still hadn't learnt at GoodGym missions, so we enabled the automatic backups of Mr G's chats on his device to prevent the same from happening in the future. Despite his depressive mood today, Mr G was grateful for our help and tried to look at the positives.
"I've got something now. It is better than nothing!"
