Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Tom (Harman) Hinton
Yesturday evening, 10 GoodGym'ers visited Longshaw Estate on the outskirts of Sheffield to explore the wilds of the Peak District. Meeting at Longshaw carpark, we set off passing the cafe and down hill towards the souther edge of the Estate. Briefly stopping at the Grouse Inn hay meadows, looking at a few of the wildflowers and chatting about the conservation of hay meadows in the National Park. Continuing through the woodland pastures and heading towards Tumble Hill, the team were rewarded with one of the best view of the Dark Peak, looking across from Eyam to Kinder Scout and the Derwent. Once we had taken in the epic view and a drink of water, we climbed steadily up through the ancient oaks of Yarncliff Woods where we found some nests of Longshaw's infamous Hairy Wood Ant. The final meadow gave us another chance to take a breather and learn a little bit more about the meadow restoration work the National Trust have been doing at Longshaw, before the final stretch back the the carpark. On leaving a few of us were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of two large stags grazing near the exit to Longshaws carpark.
A big shout out to Super Shona, who treated us to some sensational sounds at her gig that followed the run. Winning the Battle of the Bands with her band Brain Circus. Shona has now won a slot at Sheffield's biggest music festival - Tramlines !!
We also found out Showman Steve has some super cool circus skills! Top hats off to that man!!
