Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
37 runners ran 6k (including 4 x 400m in gears 3 & 4) and dug 10 bags of compost through 10 raised beds for a local estate
As a first time GoodGym runner, I found that the fact that we were all there voluntarily to do good in the community released any paranoia that comes with being a non confident runner. During the comfortable jog to our first destination, the social aspect of GoodGym was apparent. Runners from all different backgrounds enjoyed the company of people who shared the positive energy of doing good for the community.
Digging into soil
We jogged to Hollybush Estate where we were met by the residents who briefed us on what we had to do. We simply had to dig into old soil and replace it with new compost, whilst being constantly thanked and encouraged by the locals. With a total of 37 runners, our task took less than 15 minutes to complete, so we were soon jogging to our real workout.
Gruelling bursts
We arrived at London Fields, where Mark informed us that we were to do four bursts of 400 metres. A great workout at each individual's pace, with the advantage of a team mentality to keep you going. Each burst of 400 metres intensified as the group pushed their capabilities. After a gruelling final lap, what was once a bitter wind on our jog there became a welcomed breeze on our returning jog back to Arch Gallery.
Sarah Kim
