Just before I was about to start making lunch (eggs on toast), I heard the ambulance siren sound coming from my phone, signalling that I had an NHS responder alert.

Mr B was self-isolating and lives alone so had been signed up to the service. I asked if he needed any help with collecting a prescription, shopping or just wanted a chat. He let me know that he was okay for food shopping at the moment as he had recently been helped by another NHS volunteer. We then had a bit of a chat about the current times and the local area as it turned out we both lived very close by.

No sooner had I started walking downstairs to restart making lunch, my alert went off again. This time it was for Mrs R who was isolating with her husband who has dementia. She sounded very positive, despite it sounding quite difficult time, having to explain to her husband daily what COVID was and she’d recently broken her leg. We had a lovely chat about what we’d both been up to and she seemed to really enjoy getting to speak to someone.

*I am a member of Goodgym Cardiff, but I am currently completing good deeds in Darlington
