Report written by Rupesh
6 Goodgymers met on a Saturday morning in East Finchley to help out Long Lane Pasture. Long Lane Pasture is a meadow(1.05 ha, 2.6 acres), which has remained largely undisturbed for centuries (apart from a small area under cultivation during World War 2). It has never been built on. It is within an area defined as being ‘deprived of public open space’.
The regular volunteers had requested a few extra hands to get rid of fallen tree branches which were blocking a pathway. We divided into two teams, one group cracked on with cutting off the thicker branches whilst the others dragged them onto a pile of other brambles and vegetation that will eventually be burnt. Saturday school was in session - with knowledge about lichen being shared as well as discussion/comparisons between certain members’ Uber ratings (👀😶). After an hour we stopped for a coffee and carrot cake (kindly provided by Liz to mark my 99th deed) break. We managed to clear the pathway just before noon where some us bid farewell and the hardier 💪 lot made their way to another mission!

It will help make the reservoir cleaner and safer for visitors and the many plants, birds and animals that live there.
