Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

6 gallant GoodGymmers ran 6K and took on some mighty tall grass and brambles at The Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre.

After greeting two newcomers Paul and Judith, Dashing Dave arrived and pulled out a pair of the best looking patchwork gardening gloves I’d ever seen. One of the fingers looked as if it had been dipped in a jar of silver glitter - MJ sprung to mind. After our briefing, we got going and within 2 minutes Dave had unfortunately lost one of his gloves, it was even more unfortunate that the glittered finger glove had disappeared. Don’t worry Dave I’m on the lookout for a replacement.

a collection of creepy crawlies and some reptiles - shudder

En route to the light at the Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre we ran at a nice and steady pace, through Tottenham: locals looked on with interest, some looked as if they wanted to join us. Damn opportunity missed there! We then went off road and ran through the Lordship Rec, which is always pleasant. Before long, we arrived at the task where we were greeted with a gleaming smile from Clare the task owner - we had seen the light. Clare briskly guided us through the maze of polytunnels and greenhouses, past their desert house and rainforest cave which houses a collection of creepy crawlies and some reptiles - shudder. We then got to a tiny opening between two polytunnels which we ever so carefully climbed through.

men attending LBT (legs, bums and tums) and body con classes

Shoulder high tall grass and a carpet of twisting bramble met us. For a moment we wondered how we would tackle the thick undergrowth, this only lasted a millisecond as we began to wade through the tall grass headed toward the café which looked out onto this area and had become a bit of an eyesore for the locals who use the café. Our newcomer Paul previously mentioned he had cleared a few overgrown gardens in the past and didn’t waste any time in showing us his skills. We all started to cut, snip, tug and rip away at the brambles which lined the floor and small walls either side of us. In no time at all we had managed to clear a substantial area of brambles, weeds and grass. This was made all the easier by ramblings on men attending LBT (legs, bums and tums) and body con classes with the thought that it would be a breeze as the class was full of women, of course that argument held no water and I can confirm from personal experience that these classes and the ladies who attend them are no joke.

departed with a feeling of accomplishment

It was that time again; we had done a great job with a small team but our time was sadly up. We hurriedly packed away, said our goodbyes to the lovely Clare then hit the road. With a quick stop off for a running drill and circuit in the Lordship Rec followed by a round of high fives and gleeful run back to HQ our good deed and workout was complete. With not a raindrop in sight but slightly dark skies we warmed down, stretched then departed with a feeling of accomplishment.

Until next week do-gooders - stay fit, do good and look out for the light

We only got back to Lordship park about 8:30, but took a vote and decided to go ahead with some circuits anyway!
