Mountains of rock hard peaches, shipped all the way from South America, were already succumbing to mould. Frustratingly unfit for redistribution, they were stacked up inside and outside the City Harvest’s Acton Park depot ready food-waste collection. At least they will get turned into biogas and fertiliser. As will the pallet stacked high with sacks of sprouting red onions that proved too mouldy for us to sort safely.

On the positive side we were able to: crate some 4 dozen trays of root vegetables; tidy the warehouse and kitchen; and sort, crate and date a very late delivery from Amazon
