Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jo Kitching
On the hottest day of the year (so far) Katie and Jo had already tackled a new Parkrun that morning and then met up in the afternoon to jog just under 2 miles to Mr S’s. It was certainly hotter than the morning so our jog was nice and steady.
We arrived at the home of Mr S and noticed the overgrown bushes and trees that were covering the path to his gate. The path was slowly being covered by the hedges and bushes so clearing this would give Mr S better access to and from his gate.
We were given a good selection of chopping tools and set to work. Thankfully we were quite shaded when we started work so working on the task in hand wasn’t as hot as it could have been.
Too spikey for ya?
Although Jo isn’t tall she is taller than Katie so she tackled the higher branches and Katie tackled the ivy, nasty brambles and lower branches. She managed to detach the ivy from the gate post and fence so it was visible once again.
As we cut the large higher branches to clear the path, the brambles were intwined with most of these which meant we were often attached to the fallen brambles and assistance was needed to detach these.
Within an hour we had already noticed a massive difference cutting back the trees and the pile of cutting was certainly larger than we initially anticipated. Once we had finished cutting the pathway was cleared thanks to a great idea from Katie improvising with some wood when we didn’t have a broom.
We said goodbye to Mr S and he was very impressed and thankful for the amount of clearing we had done in such a short time. We slowly headed back towards our meeting point and since this was another fab task for Goodgym we treated ourselves to an ice lolly of the same name.

Parkrun and a GG mission all in the same day?! Great work!
