The Wails of Snails

Portsmouth Report written by Jen Stoneham

It felt very sad to be heading home from tonight's task in the dark - winter evenings are coming! We made the most of the fading light with a stupendous effort clearing the pathways at the back of the Synagogue - check out Laura's before and after photos!

There were lots of cries of "OW!" as brambles fought back, and "OH NO"s as unwitting snails met unfortunate ends whilst we were working hard.

The Evening of the Triffids

Portsmouth Report written by Jen Stoneham

A little less dystopian future than the 1953 novel (yes, I have been down a Wikipedia rabbit hole), our task this evening took us to a very peaceful garden for a spot of weeding.

The triffids had taken over the paving, so we removed these and some other weeds between the slabs. We even had time to clear some of the stoned area, including moving a very stubborn fuschia from amongst the rocks to a much more comfortable pot.

A lovely rainbow made a brief appearance at the end of our session which felt like a little bit of a reward for a very damp task.

Hotel open for bugs

Portsmouth Report written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Mr D needed help clearing the honeysuckle overgrowth and cutting back the bushes in his garden.

We discovered where the patio was and moved a rotten bench to make a bug hotel along the fence line. We uncovered what felt like hundreds of pots and made a pile of cuttings so high it was as tall as us!

It was a great workout including climbing, pulling up roots, lifting and chopping. 90 minutes completed.

Pull it, push it, turn it, slide it

Portsmouth Report written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Run report title inspired by the Boppit game which my brother was obsessed by as a kid!!

Richard and I moved 2 wardrobes from the middle room to the front room. The usual Pompey narrow doors and hallway meant a bit of angle calculation and great care not to take out the gas pipe on the way. Teamwork made the dream work and 2 wardrobes were in their new place in less than 10 minutes.

Excellent job ๐Ÿ‘

Here's our picture, somewhere in Fratton post-shift.

Weeding and trimming bushes for Mr.D (flexi) (Wk2)

It is on Mr.D's mind at the moment and it is a bit messy out in the garden so it will mean he may be able to go out there.

The halls are alive, with the sound of cleaning

Portsmouth Report written by Dave M

In a late change to our task we set about giving the Gibson Centre a good scrub down.

The cages were taken off the radiators, many spiders were relocated and the water was dirty in minutes. We schwooped with brooms, swished with dusters and Abby fixed the Scouts sign and hung it back up with pride. No clothing was found this time round, however the discovery of a discarded toenail more than made up for that ๐Ÿคข

We made use of the echo in the hall to rendition some Sound of Music classics and took a turn at yodelling.

With thanks to Katie for giving us a list of tasks we happily crossed them off. Jazzing it up with some added French ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท and pizza ๐Ÿ• drawings to make it look more fun! And we even found a new trophy to use for GG fun times, comment with some ideas as to what you think the award should be for. I think the first congrats is to Wilson on good deed #400!!!

Discussions around Katie trip to Oz and the recent Victorious festival filled our time and we were soon flashing the board, and then cleaning it! ๐Ÿ˜œ
