Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Manjit Birk
So we trialled going back to a bank holiday Monday session with a litter pick at our 'adopt a place' of Salt Hill Park.
We did have fewer participants than we usually do however a park full of people getting fit and having fun which was great to see.
With only 4 of us in attendance tonight, we did a resistance bands based fitness exercise with 'flashers', chest pulls, lat pull downs, leg raises and high knees before breaking off into pairs with our litter bingo sheets to see which team could find the most items.
Jen and Mehdi ventured off into the alley of doom (or the 'bar' as Mehdi called it) to collect the masses of beer cans that local residents insist on throwing there...we should remind them that this isn't an Ale-way, it's an alleyway! This area always has some deva-brew with us. We are sure that we clear it and yet a while later, it's back to how it was...'oh beer me'!
Jen and Mehdi found 16 out of their 25 items...plenty of cans, but no newspaper, definitely no coins or items of clothing and POO bags!
Pam and I went off through the play area then around the other side of the park to find as many items as possible. We found mainly plastic wrappings - shards of them all over the park and wet wipes. We should do something drastic and cut the plastics really!
Pam and I found 20 of our 25 items. We too found no POO!
We collected 3 bag fulls between us tonight.
Next week we are back helping Wexham Park Hospital with a litter pick. Meet up point is outside Maasani on Shaggy Calf Lane at 18.30.
