Report written by Anita (she/her)
Once upon a time
Beside a mighty river
A garden lay asleep.
Sow-thistle, dandelion, bramble:
Tendrils of neglect encroaching on once manicured borders.
Seven benches stood stoic, slowly sinking into the encroaching green.
Seven benches celebrating seven braves:
Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, Sneezy, Doc, Bashful and Dopey.
But as was foretold
Six Goodgym heroes rose.
Plucky, resourceful, big green hearted,
They rode, ran, d(r)ove into the park.
Aided by trusty picks and spades
And bottomless tubs acquired from the great magician B&Q,
They valiantly hacked the weeds
To reveal the lost benches of Buccleuch.
Heigh Ho.
With thanks to Richmond Council for the Great Green Week microgrant to enable us to tackle this transformation. The £250 has been used to buy tubs, seeds, potting compost and plants.
Anita has listed another Great Big Green Week session for Tuesday 13th June 2023 at 6pm to start the new planting around the 'Bashful' and 'Dopey' benches.
The plants in our sponsored plots in Buccleuch Gardens, Richmond (The Three Pigeons Plot, The Arcade Rockery and now the benches) really benefit from watering in dry weather. If you fancy a 'watering can workout' you can find 2 watering cans tucked in on the right hand side of the compost heap to the left of the brick Arcade. Draw water from the Thames using the steps down from The Three Pigeons Plot.
Solo watering missions can be self-logged on the Goodgym website by clicking on the Goodgym logo on the top left of the homepage and then clicking again on your id image that appears top left
