Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner
Amanda, Carol and Sheila met at the Baby Bank this morning to help out with this vital facility. We joined 15 corporate volunteers from Lonza as well as 3 other regular volunteers, so the place was buzzing! Our first task was to add nappies, wipes, toiletries and bedding to some referral packs for which the clothes had already been put together. These were then stored, ready to be picked up. Then, it was up to the clothes-sorting area, to work our way through some recently arrived donations. Rebecca came up and told us that a mum-to-be had just picked up her referral and was in tears over the kindness that had been shown to provide her with the essentials she needed. It really brought home to us how much it means to the recipients. We all stayed a little longer than intended, but managed to finish what we were doing and left it in a good place for next week
The Baby Bank collects donations of good quality clothes, equipment, and furniture to help families in extreme need. They provide essentials ranging from everyday items like nappies, and wipes to larger items like cots. They support families beyond the baby stage, for example with school uniform. They aim to give all children the best possible start in life.
