On a glorious Spring time evening, Area Activator Simon was joined by Katie and first time Goodgym runner Alice at Elizabeth House Food Hub. After a short warm up drill and a bit of a chat, we ran about 1 mile up some slopes to Highbury Quadrant Estate, where we met up with the lovely Frannie of Octopus Community Network.

The Highbury Quadrant Estate has been an super successful re-wilding and green maintenance project involving a line of forgotten plots of land. We were working in the meadow this evening, but we have helped out in the orchard and in the plant nursery in the past.

This time, our objective was to lay down a stretch of tarpaulin along a muddy section of soil (under two large water butts), and to then fill the sheets with gravel and pebbles. This material needed to be shifted and wheelbarrowed from the entrance of the gardens, and then raked into position. Alice and Katie did a smashing job in no time, and we even found another 10 minutes to help with moving more gravel to a potential spot for a new greenhouse (watch this space!).

After a top task completion, we all ran back to Elizabeth House Food Hub together, but treated ourselves to a more scenic route back, passing Clissold Park and running through some gorgeous red brick neighbourhoods.

Headtorch Group Run- The Highgate Claw

We will be leading our final headtorch group run on Friday evening (25th March, 7pm, starting from The Prince of Wales pub in Highgate), by undertaking a classic North London running challenge "The Claw". This is an approximately 10km route, that leads up and down 5 significant climbs (Archway Road, Dartmouth Park Hill, Swain's Lane, Highgate Hill and Fitzroy Park), but connecting with The Prince of Wales pub after every lap. Try to complete as many as you can!
