22 GoodGymers ran 8.5k to Stamford Hill Wellbeing Garden turning over and weeding a colossal garden!
On a night of celebrations we had a top turn out including a GG Newbie Matt and some amazing GoodGym tourists.
After a warm welcome and an extra special T-Shirt presentation for milestone conquers Peter and Amy we got our fitness juices going with a Centurion press up/Planking challenge on London Fields!
Splitting into two groups we set off purposefully towards the very North of Hackney keeping a solid pace as we negotiated hills, curbs, crossings and pizza delivery bikes over 4 and a bit K of smooth running! Shout out to Phil for chasing us down to join the fun after getting stuck on route to the Bakehouse!
Grabbing the tools from Rosemary and huge thank you to Peter for bringing along the extra tools so everyone's hard work could be fully utilised!! Swinging hard from the off we go going with pick axes, forks, shovels, loppers, rakes and even a crowbar!!
Turning over and weeding square metre after square metre getting the ground ready for top soil and planting at a tremendous rate! With the weeds flying out the ground with a great combo of pick axing and raking Steve's eyes glazed over at the prospect of attacking a huge tree root! Swinging for the fences with each lusty pick axes blow really taking on a mighty root Steve made huge in roads into what will be a monumental effort to remove the tree root.
With time against us we boosted our hydration and energy levels with some lovely Watermelon before with launched our running attack back to base using the down hills to our advantage to claw back some time!
A little hiccup getting into the Bakehouse but after some loud banging we were in and off to enjoy a milestone Social with 53 minutes over running under our belts!
With chocolate and carrot cake on offer we replaced a few calories and great to see so many runners able to join in the post running fun! Lovely to see Jeff Coat come along on her Rich's super busy wedding week! All the best for the big day on Saturday!
Next week I am breaking my streak and going to watch Mo and Usain do their thing at the World Athletics Championships so Camden Super Trainer Paul will be leading Hackney on our visit to Abney Park.
Have a great couple of weeks and will see you on the 15th for another Summer social at Hackney Wick community garden!
