Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Our second Saturday run saw 21 runners assembling in Roll for the Soul (RtfS) - at least some of us put off venturing out in to the cold until the last possible moment! More new people joined us for the run, and it was great to see people returning from last Saturday's run too.
We had a steady run around Queens Square to ensure we were warm enough to tackle the tricky Brandon Hill run and then launched ourselves up the steep hill. At the top we met up with Joe from Avon Wildlife Trust who was a veritable fountain of information about the park and gave us a bit of history about the area too.
We split in to groups - the pitchforkers were clearing green waste that had been fished out of the nearby pond by forking it in to wheelbarrows and then taking it down to compost bins at the Avon Wildlife Trust HQ. At one point people started to do the 'get orrrrf moi land' brandishing which then descended in to piratical 'args' (both of which are entirely appropriate for Bristol!) and then prompted us to wonder if pirates had pitchforks.
The bramble bashers were doing what it says on the tin. Brambles got bashed and a hillside got revealed over the course of about 30 minutes. A wide variety of sharp edged tools meant that people got to chop at brambles in ways that we don't normally get to do at GoodGym (and we're pros at bramble bashing!).
Once we'd completed our tasks, we split in to two groups - those who wanted a slightly longer run, and those who wanted to go back to RtfS for a good old stretch. Luckily as the first group finished stretching, the second arrived back.
It was lovely to have another big group of runners, and will be great to see you all again soon! Thanks for coming!
