This evening, five runners faced The Task Master for a series of challenges that tested their strength, agility, imagination and artistic flair. The winner would be crowned Task Master Champion and claim bragging rights over the others.

Task 1 was titled “What a plank!” and tested the ability of each contestant to hold a two minute plank while exercising their artistic skill too by drawing a portrait of the Task Master in a suitably majestic pose. Nigel proved himself to be the plank master, but it was Deb’s skill with a pen and a splash of colour that saw her taking the 5 point prize.

Task 2 went by the heading of “If 2020 were a household object…”. In this round the contestants were asked to find a household object that they felt embodied the year 2020 so far and explain why they felt it typified an otherwise disappointing year. Nigel’s pants were truly a sight to behold, but it was Liz’s creative skills with a sewing machine that clinched the 5 points for this round.

The third and final task “You’re a star!” (inspire by a younger member of the Coventry GoodGym entourage) combined two of our favourite activities: star jumps and books. After discussing our selection of books, including an ‘old school’ version of dictionary.com on paper, a book of cocktails and my personal favourite, “Scone with the wind”, the contestant were required to complete as many star jumps as possible with their books balanced on their heads. Liz managed an impressive 8 jumps with a style reminiscent of yoga, which earned her the 5 point prize for the final round.

The points were totalled and the results were as follows:

1st Place – Liz (14 points)

2nd Place – Deb (11 points)

Joint 3rd Place – Nigel & Laura (8 points)

4th Place – Katherine (5 points)

Special mention also goes to Vic, who joined us at the end and submitted an impressive plank and artwork.
