On a windy but sunny Saturday afternoon 8 happy Goodgymers and 1 marvellous mini-Goodgymer (Jess) turned out to help sort plastic waste to raise funds for the Hallswood Animal Sanctuary.
As this was a Community Mission we met at the task which turned out to be someone's home! They had kindly offered their house as a base for us and some other volunteers to meet and sort through sacks of plastic waste which had come from various collection points which are then sorted and sold on to raise funds for the charity. This is plastic waste which is not collected for recycling by the local council but still has a value if sorted correctly.
The event organisers were well prepared with gloves and sacks and tables set up in a number of rooms. We were joined by their beautiful and friendly Cavapoo!! We quickly split up and got stuck into sifting through the contents of each sack, separating them out into various categories such as crisp packets, sweet wrappers, pens, bread bags and toiletries.
A special mention has to go out to mini-Goodgymer Jess who was brave enough to collect up all the pet food packets (mainly cat food pouches), not all of which had been rinsed out properly and so were very niffy!
Two hours had been allocated to the task but as we were all awesome we smashed through the task in superfast time and were able to head off home a bit early.
