Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
Today I met up with Sam for a mission in Islington for Ms J.
Ms J has mobility problems, and though she loves her garden (in her own words, she's been green for "longer than God"), she's been unable to keep up with it. Her neighbour also used to help out, but she doesn't like to ask him that often because "he's almost as old as [Ms J is]". A partner charity asked GoodGym if we could help out.
After saying hello to Ms J and chatting for a few minutes, we got to work. Well, I say "we" got to work, but it was pretty much Sam, who I'd already noted as a force of nature on our first mission together.
Within mere minutes, she'd decimated some ivy growing up Ms J's wall with a strangely beautiful grace and was pulling up some weeds/ground cover by it's short hairs. She was so thorough, she also found a stolen purse, which we made sure to tell Ms J about at the end of the mission. I made a few snips at a berry bearing tree that definitely wasn't juniper or hawthorn (we googled), and so is probably unknown and unnamed type of flora. Berry GoodGymium has a nice ring to it though, so maybe we can make this happen :)
We were finished within an hour and spent a pleasant few minutes more chatting to Ms J (who was very happy with our work and hopes very much that we can come back and do her rear garden) before heading off.
Lovely working with you again, Sam! :)
