Carol and I met up briefly before the run and made our way to Mrs J's home. Just as we knocked on Mrs J's front door the heavens opened and the rain began to pour down. Luckily it stopped for just long enough for us to all rush to Mrs J's back garden so she could show us what needed to be done. Mrs J has lived here for about 30 years and the garden is her pride and joy - not just because of the beautiful flowers and plants, but because home grown beans taste nicer than the ones you get in the shops. Mrs J also relies on her garden to help protect her against the pollution coming from the busy roads near her house so she was keen that we didn't prune or clear too much of it away! I set about pruning some roses while Carol cleared the garden path, weeded and helped Mrs J discover some plants that had been hidden since the last time the garden had been given some attention. Carol and I were very glad to have Mrs J there with us handing us tools and pointing out plants that could be cleared and the ones that could stay. She showed us her pride and joy - a row of bean plants that a friend had helped her plant earlier this year. When we finished Mrs J was very pleased with the end result and we were all very happy that the rain held off just enough for us to give the garden a quick tidy before saying our goodbyes.
