Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by David Snutch
Funny old run tonight - mild for the time of year but a bit of fine drizzle in the air totally against all the forecasts.
It was a run of two halves - the half that met at the DMU and the half that went direct. Notwithstanding, the plan came together beautifully and everyone arrived at the Quadrant right on cue at 6,30pm.
We welcomed 3 new members tonight, Frank, who just for the record has the surname of Lusk and we cant quite work out why the GG system keeps calling him by his surname, then there was Gerald, and Lee.
We were greeted by Emma and Karen from the Quadrant - I think Karen is on site most of the time but Emma had made time especially to see us. The task was a general clean and tidy up but the most intriguing bit was the requirement to do a bit of house work for Hilda who answers to the name of Reenie who is 93 or was it 97 or was it 95 she kept changing her mind. Lee and Lindsay were charged with looking after "Reenhilda" - hoovering, pot washing and by all accounts an evening of hilarious banter and as I understand it Lee was on the receiving end of quite a bit of flirting.
Other attentions were focussed on litter picking and leaf clearance and as seems to be the norm we filled several bags.
We were given the use of a neatly mown grassed area for a short fitness session after the task - squats, stair climbs, star jumps and press ups being the "quad" of exercises - then there was a plank off - Frank, Lindsay, Gerald and Leigh showing some impressive core strength - I have probably missed someone there but it was dark and thats my excuse.
Emma and Karen came out to thank us for our help but politely declined our offer for them to join in with the fitness session.
It was not a quad but a quin who went back to town - 4k as it turned out so quite a nice run throught the Abbey Park, past the National Space Centre and back to base for a few stretches then home.
Well Done Everyone.
A sheltered housing scheme for older people, kept in very good order but always in need of a bit of help e.g. some residents have difficulty with general cleaning tasks.

Nice pun Dave :) Great task too. Can't wait to see Reenie again. She said she would try stay alive long enough for us (think she really meant Lee) to go back again :) What a fantastic sense of humour!
