Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Newcastle runner
The East End Women’s foodbank is right beside the River Tyne and after LOTS of snow and rain recently the river is very full! My run was thwarted yesterday due to major flooding in the underpass where we’ve done hill reps on our GoodGym Newcastle group runs (remember those?!) and I got very damp but we certainly weren’t thwarted and our spirits weren’t dampened as we took on the usual tasks at the foodbank this week. Charlotte and Kate now have the process of organising the bags for the delivery drivers flowing like a well-oiled machine so they kept me right! We loaded the bags into the drivers’ cars then spent the second half of the tasks transferring food from the stock room to the main room ready for packing. The shelves are as full as the river! It was great to talk to Sarah who works full time at the foodbank about how she’s improving everything so that the GoodGym volunteers and the other regular volunteers Nancy, Fiona and Janey can all work swimmingly together! The foodbank will be flying like a smooth flowing river!
East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
