Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by anne malcolm
Ms L was keen to freshen up her living room and had bought herself a lovely new rug to replace the old one. She made the purchase two years ago. This weekend, she got help from GoodGym to help move furniture, remove the old one and finally put the new one in place.
The living room was well provided for with seating options - one sofa, a futon and two arm chairs - each of which had at least two legs on the existing rug. The first discussion was therefore how best to extract the old rug from beneath the furniture. There was also a question around whether the new rug would be large enough to cover the underlay below.
The initial decision to roll the rug length ways, front to back, proved to be a fall start. Instead, the team soon reviewed and revised their approach, opting to roll the rug left to right instead - a decision influenced by the number of furniture legs to be negotiated.
With the original rug removed (temporarily to the futon) and wanting to make sure the job was done properly, David very kindly hoovered the area before the team embarked on rolling out the new rug.
The new rug proved to be a little smaller and didn't quite cover the underlay but with the furniture in place, it wasn't noticeable and Ms L was very pleased with her transformed living room.
The final job was to removed the old rug (and an old microwave which was also on its way out) down to the bin area ready for a bulky waste collection by the council.
