35 awesome runners leg it 4km each way to West Norwood and spread some rubble around to form the basis of an outdoor gym at the Portico Gallery! Then we leg it back again
It was light for at least 25% of our run last night and boy did that draw a lovely big crowd. We had some great new runners and some great old faithfuls too. Elise finally got her wings t-shirt after a couple of months of playing hide and seek with the postman - hooray Elise!
As it was the last run in March, the presitgious Shit Prize of the Month (SPOTM) was to be handed out - but who to?I hear you cry. This month went to the brilliant SHANICE - after starting in January with a super long run down to Waterloo Farm, she's now completed her 15th good deed, cheered 65 times and has entered a race. A clear SPOTM winner!
Great work Shanice! Said everyone
We split into three groups to run the 4km to West Norwood and back. The first group was for the more relaxed runner and anyone opting for a walk/run pace. The next group headed off at a steady 9.30mm and the last group played a game of snake (like the old skool phone game) before whizzing off trying to catch the rest.
On arriving at the Portico we were faced with two important tasks. Task one was checking over tables to see if they were damaged or not before they are used for the West Norwood Feast. The second, much more physical task, was moving bags of rubble into an area that will be used as an outdoor gym. The bags were heavy and it took the whole team to get it all into place and spread out. A few people were put through their paces with some nice squats and then we got something thrown at us. We thought we were getting abused by the neighbours but actually it was John Hunter throwing a small onion at us.
Actually it was a shallot. Said John. Well THANKS SHALLOT! said the victims
And with that it was the steady 4km run home, with people really picking up the pace and some really impressive runs from our first timers. We did some lovely stretches and then a group of us headed to the pub for a well earned pint. Great work team!
