My husband was out running and sent up an SOS for an injured gull, bleeding and looking like he was trying to cross a busy road!

I donned my GoodGym garden gloves, grabbed a box and towel and trotted the 1.5km distance to chase him around a bit and keep him from causing chaos on the roads.

I then enlisted the help of a friend with wheels to transport the battered bird to Pawz for Thought in Sunderland where they do such great work rescuing all sorts of injured animals.

It was a bit of an odd experience but I felt great afterwards - despite Sir Chomps-a-lot trying to take a chunk out my arm…

They say no good deed…
