Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Julian Osman
Saturday saw our return to Westcombe Woodland, a 3.6 acre Woodland hidden away next to Seren Park in Maze hill. The Woodland is being lovingly restored to create a protected educational wild space. The mission for the day was to help with setting up a wildflower area to attract more bees for the hives in the woods.
Two Goodgymmers arrived to be be met by Andrew and Jeremy, two of the regular volunteers, and tasks were assigned. Soil first needed to be placed in bags at the bottom of a slope, before being wheeled up into the woods and to a lovely clearing where it was emptied into a trench to from a sterile barrier to allow wildflowers to proliferate in the future. In addition, as a result of previous days inclement weather, a number of leaves that had accumulated in the trench needed to be removed and it fell to one of the runners to rake all of these out. 90 minutes later with leaves gone and a lot of soil moved the mission was complete.
