Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
It’s great to be back with GG Newham, thank you to Simon for filling in for me last week. This week we were joined by two lovely newbies Stephanie and Iman. Both of whom finished the evening with smiles on their faces so I’m guessing we’ll be seeing some more of them.
Yvonne from the newly launched ShareEast scheme met us at the Aquatics centre to brief the team on what the project is all about, after our knowledge was topped up and some pleasantries exchanged we made our way outside for a warm up which very nearly turned into a group flying exercise as the winds picked up and swirled sharply. Nevertheless, it wasn’t rain - so it was all good.
Before setting off I warned the group of our race that would ensue on the return journey therefore anyone wanting to do the longer runs both ways should pay close attention to the route insert multiple ‘I am lost already’ faces
Bodies warm, flyers divvied up (kind of) we set off to Maryland, 3k later we were at the foot of our first road. We split into 4 teams and set of at different parts of the road to get the flyers through letterboxes as quick as possible once finished the teams conveniently met in the middle ready for a burst of leg strengthening squats. We repeated this several times over as we ploughed through the roads in under 10 mins each.
All that was left was to get back to the Olympic Park. Ready for the return race, 5 runners set off on the 2.5k route and the rest raced us back on a 3k route. The 2.5k group came in first, hot and sweaty we headed back inside to finish up with some light stretching.
Well done everyone, same time next week.
