Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
As Kash and Sevan arrived at Mr W's house, it was turning into the first properly hot mission day of the year for them. They crossed their fingers and hoped that Mr W's garden would be nice and shady. No chance. It was in direct sunlight in the afternoon. Well, they didn't want to complain about the weather being too good, so they got on with the mission at hand.
Mr W's garden was around 4 metres by 5 and had a small concrete patio near the house, which was surrounded by dirt. Well, 4 weeks ago it was dirt and now it had flourished into a weedy forest. For the second week in a row, the unwanted vegetation was taller than Kash and today, taller than Sevan too. It was huge!
Mr W wanted us to remove everything that was a weed, so only a rose bush in the corner was to stay. There weren't any tools, so Kash and Sevan were asked to hand pull everything. That wasn't actually as bad as it seemed. The ground was so dry that a trowel would've been useless anyway.
Kash and Sevan sat at the edge of the concrete and started pulling everything within arm's reach. Cats Ears, Herb Robert (or Rob as they know him) and others were everywhere.
When their arms became too short, they decided to use their energy to stand up - despite the heat - and work their way towards the far fence. They thought they were doing a good job, but every time they looked back, they spotted more weeds. Were the weeds magic and growing as quickly as Kash and Sevan were pulling them out?
The hour and a half flew by, with 6 bin bags filled with weeds. The only vegetation they couldn't remove by hand were the stalks of grass. There were too many of them.
Mr W was impressed with the change and talked about the adaptations he was making to his house to allow him better access to the back garden for the summer. Kash and Sevan hoped that it would remain weed-free for him.
