As I sit on a sofa with my cosy footsies on, I reminisce about the day I obtained such a fine piece of footwear.
It was getting dark when I ran to South Acton to do Mr G's weekly groceries. The rain had stopped, and the barriers at the train track crossing were up, so I considered myself lucky. Mr G was not in a great mood and had not prepared a new book of labels since last week's shop, so it looked like I was going to buy him the same set of products again. He tore off the label with potatoes he had in stock and the one with cavolo nero that he must have been fed up with. I asked whether he'd want to try some different meals this time and offered to go to Waitrose for a change, but Mr G said he hadn't had an appetite lately.
In Sainsbury's, I bought all the things from the list but decided to experiment with the flavours of the protein yoghurts. Mr G's book of labels prescribed five strawberry yoghurts, but I went for only two of them and replaced the remaining three with raspberry, blueberry and passion fruit & papaya flavours. Mr G said he liked blueberries, so maybe next week the blueberry yoghurt label will make it to the shopping list.
When I was about to queue for the checkout, I spotted fluffy slippers on display. I was looking for a pair of those for the winter as my old ones had worn out beyond repair. That was how destiny bound me to my cosy footsies. It was less than three hours ago, so I hope we'll be together for more than a season.
