17 runners ran 6-7k to paint a Youth Centre
On a pretty revolting wet and windy evening 17 amazing people laced up and hit the streets to help a brilliant young enterprise create some 'learning space' in the bowels of Somerset House.
Affordable space for makers and apprenticeships for young people
Makerversity offer workspace for exciting enterprises who make things- helping them get projects off the ground. These enterprises are then great examples for young people- so they offer a variety of workshops, training programmes and apprenticeships to young people to learn new skills....the Maker- versity. Get it? We were helping them turn the upstairs space into new workshop space....it needs a lot of work!
The Squeeky Shoe's 3K
With a brief lull in the heavier rain (it was still wet) we legged it down to Somerset House- dodging in and out of Holborn office workers (and annoying golf umbrellas eh Freya!) en route. Even with our own running siren- Pritesh's incredible squeeky trainers- people rarely gave us much room. I think Jules should be called up to play for France in the Six Nations if his swift 'pavement sidestep' is anything to go by!
The delicious aroma of White Spirit
We divided into 2 teams. One grabbed some scrapers and headed off around the room to strip any peeling paint and plaster from the walls. The other broke into 4 separate groups of 3 and each took a quarter of the room. Armed with scourer pads and white spirit, their job was to remove the fluff and glue that remained from the old carpet tiles from the floor. It was harder work than it sounds. In 20mins each team had to clear as much as possible- and the winning team of Chris, Jess and Steve completely cleared the area. They were deliriously happy...though that had more to do with the white spirit fumes than the thrill of victory.
Running through the Gears
On the way home we split up, with one group heading back to the centre while the other run a few loops of Lincoln Inn Fields- messing about with paces and 'gears' to give us a varied workout. With remarks about 'our bravery' from passers ringing in our ears we finished the run with a sprint in to the centre. Nice running homies
Camden
AIC's cold weather shelter helps 16 Londoners each and every week - you'll be making sure things are ready and inviting for the evening's guests :)
