17 runners run 4km Cleaning for St Peter’s Church
Another Wednesday and a slightly different group of 17 runners gathered at Leisure World. 17 must be our lucky number… We welcomed new runner Peter, and Courtney and Chris who returned after their first group run last week.
We made our way through Castle Park to St Peter’s Church - as we were approaching the park gate, it looked very locked, but luckily the side gate was open, so we didn’t have to dust off our pole vaulting poles.
Unfortunately, due to the long hot summer we’ve experienced, the leaves had not yet fallen, so leaf clearing wasn’t needed. Instead, we made our way inside, gathered dusters and brooms to clean the rarely used pews on either side of the church, and up in the galleries. As we approach Christmas, the church will be used for Christmas Carol concerts, and these pews will be used.
It really was a LOT of dust, and you can see from the photos that Ciara was quite proud of her dusting accomplishments.
Many runners make light work
And we were done in no time - clearly everybody couldn’t wait to do hill reps.
We made our way to the North Hill Doctor’s Surgery, and split the group in two, so there weren’t too many of us on one footpath at a time. With Tom running a marathon on Sunday, and David’s calves sore from his Insanity workout the day before, there wasn’t as much enthusiasm for the hill reps as when we did them back in August, but still, everyone did have a go, and meet the 3 hill rep minimum.
Of course Tommy went for 9 - That’s expected really.
Proud of another task well done, we made our way up the hill for our social.
Next week, we will be combining some past tasks by litter picking and cutting back nettles. Sign up here and if you don’t have a headtorch, please make every effort to get one before next week - you can always email me for a recommendation.
This weekend, there are also a couple of Community missions, which you can sign up to here and here
