Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This morning I met up with Philippa and Sarah for a pre-work mission for Mr K. This was my second mission for Mr K after previously having helped to organise his flat a couple of months ago.
Mr K has limited mobility and has recently been released from hospital. In order for him to be more comfortable at home, he needs a recliner chair installed. GoodGym were asked if we could make some space for this by removing a sofa.
After introducing ourselves to Mr K, we began (N.B. during our 20 minutes or so there, Mr K had a steady instream of visitors, including two carers and his daughter. Just insert their arrival at appropriate times throughout the following 😄👍🏻).
We started by removing all of the cushions to avoid them falling off mid-move and knocking over something breakable (no matter what you think, there's always something breakable 😬).
Underneath these cushions were a plethora of old newspapers. These being even more likely than cushions to fall off and break things, we decided to put them into the recycling (there were around 2.5 black bags worth in total).
Next came the main event: the sofa! Luckily, even though the sofa looked awkward, it ended up being relatively light and easy to navigate. It went out of the living room, was twirled around a couple of corners, and finally yanked out the front door. Super fast! 😎
Mr K's daughter was really thankful for our help, especially since the recliner chair is scheduled to be delivered later today. Hopefully that means that Mr K will be able to rest a bit more comfortably now :)
Philippa and Sarah, it was lovely seeing you guys again 😄
