Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week a brave team of GoodGym-ers ran 4.5km to do good in Barnet through rain and shine. Rainbows (and brownies) were our reward.
The torrential rain managed to scare a few runners off. But not this lot. Damian, Louis and Phil even got there before I did. Bonus points for that. After a quick indoor briefing safe inside the rain-free walls of the Phoenix, it was time to step outside for our warm up. With rain aplenty muddying the park, I decided it was better to warm up along the side of the Phoenix, much like we did in the winter before the park opened... Good old British summer time, eh?
The weather meant our task was rained out. Painting soggy garden furniture in the rain would be rather fruitless, afterall. Instead we ran down to Strawberry Vale to litter pick around the Green Man Community Centre and the North Circular. We quickly filled five black bin bags of rubbish, working in pairs to scour the area. Once the bags were full and placed in the large bins nearby, we headed off to Glebelands Open Space for more litter picking. Once again the team worked in record time, filling five more black bin bags. Leaving us plenty of time for resistance running and relays.
Back at base, [Hazel] treated us to this week's Barnet Biscuit: homemade chocolate brownies.
Fantastic effort all around, team!
Don't forget about the GG Olympics this Saturday in Parliament Hill. Task Force Freya is our Olympics Chief. Get in touch with her if you want to play. Or click here for more information.
And if you're looking for your next race, take a look at Race the Neighbours, a local 10km through Ally Pally and Highgate Woods. It even starts in our very own Cherry Tree Woods. It'd be great to get a GG Barnet team down!
Next week we are running to North Finchley to deliver newsletter for the Phoenix. Sign up here.

It will help make the reservoir cleaner and safer for visitors and the many plants, birds and animals that live there.
