Lynne and Mel joined Sam for today's sessions which included building balloon cars and spaghetti bridges and making more lava lamps. Family teams worked together to design and produce a list of materials required for the balloon cars. For the spaghetti bridge, materials were limited to just spaghetti and a number of small marshmallows. The bridge needed to stand a minimum of 1 inch off the ground and be strong enough to hold a saucer. Sam set some strict rules to make it all fair. There was some friendly competition, but also some great team spirit whereby everyone was helping each other with ideas. The photos speak for themselves in terms of the creativity and thinking out of the box taking place to achieve their goal! The Green team managed to propel their balloon car a massive 5' 5" along the ground, but all of the cars moved forward a short way, so a great achievement for everyone. All of the teams made spaghetti bridges that filled the criteria and all were able to support the saucer. Last but not least the lava lamps which were a great success, mainly due to exchanging bicarbonate of soda with Alka Seltzer tabs (great idea Sam) which worked a treat. We also had a selection of 'shiny things' which added some sparkle amongst the bubbles. Mermaid team won the lava lamp competition for the bubbliest and prettiest, but all of them worked brilliantly. Today's attendance: 17 over 5's children and adults plus 5 under 5's children - a fantastic turnout!
