7 runners turned out at the Life Project at Monksdale Road Allotments to help reclaim some land lost to nature.

The Life Project has been given a new area of allotment to tend to and we were tasked with getting rid of the overgrown grass and weeds and turning over the soil so that the area could be used for planting.

We started off all digging over the same area but were soon wary of a fork-toe collision and so split into teams with Meyrick, Max, Mark and Sam tackling the main area, and Emily and Rachel clearing a small area near a stream at the edge of the site. Ruth was on a mission to scrape paint from some raised planters to prep them ready for painting.

Due to some much needed rain since our last visit, it was much easier to dig over the soil and we made speedy work of it, so our host found another area for the 3 M's and Sam to work on, whilst Rachel and Emily moved to the planters to assist Ruth.

The space is a fantastic resource for the Life Project and is teeming with wildlife - some very happy robins enjoyed the worms and grubs we were digging up and we even had an encounter with some slow worms!

We hope that the visitors to the Life Project can enjoy the new spaces we have created and look forward to going back soon.
