Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
The split worked beautifully last night. Thanks Ziad!
We all met up at Coffee Is My Cup of Tea, and we limbered up and chatted outside soaking up the evening sunshine and warmth. People had travelled from a far to join the run last night with a couple from Clapham!
With a tight crew, we set off at a decent pace through London Fields up a gradual incline towards the first destination in Stoke Newington. At St Paul's Church the group split and some runners ran on another high street 400m to the second task at the Patchwork Farm.
One group set about cutting and sawing up felled trees and branches in the church's community garden, and the other group lifted heavy bags of broken up low-grade concrete from the farm to the skip outside.
It was satisfying to know our hard graft at the farm was paying off, and the urban farmers are now ready to start the next phase of transforming the urban space into a growing space.
It was our first time at the lovely church, and Niall (the Rector) explained the extent of the work to come. Hopefully, with Heritage Lottery Funding, we'll be helping the community convert the 2 acre site behind the church into an accessible and beautiful public garden. Can't wait to get stuck in here!
So for both groups, it was a whole muscle group workout - using arms, back, chest, abs, glutes and legs! We used every muscle to cut, saw, bag, lift and drag.
After 20 minutes of decent work we reformed on Stoke Newington High Street and bombed back to base. Led by Lauren and with an injection of 'come on lets go' we picked up our legs and sprinted through London Fields to the finish line at the bike stands outside the cafe.
Job well done.
