And then there was light! What a relief to be working in daylight for the first time in 6 months. Thank you all so much for sticking with it over the long dark winter, now enjoy your time in the sunshine!

News tonight was focussed on congratulating all who ran the Lancing College 10k on Sunday. It was a tough, hilly, partly off road course with a particularly nasty hill at the end, but a great day out and we got a great shout out for Goodgym from the race commentator. Well done to Helena who finished as third lady and to me (I came first!) so hopefully we increased awareness about Goodgym in Worthing and Brighton.

In other news a huge thank you to Amrowho put Goodgym forward for some community funding awarded by his company Mott Macdonald and we have won £500! This will be spent on a combination of promotion, equipment and extra weekend runs to help organisations we can’t get to on a Tuesday evening. Watch this space!

Tonight’s task was at the Percy & Wagner Almshouses at the bottom of Elm Grove. These are the last almshouses in Brighton and one of the requirements for residency is being over 55 so its a great fit for Goodgym. Cllr David Gibson introduced us to residents Monica and Suzanne who set us to work reducing the height of some large shrubs in the communal garden. Severe haircuts all round ensued, allowing a lot more light into the garden and making room for new spring growth. Elsewhere the man of the match award goes to Laurafor her sterling litter picking efforts at the front of the cottages. This area has some large vegetation making it an ideal area for all sorts of activities its probably best not to speculate too much on! A huge amount of cans and bottles were picked and taken to the recycling bins, and the general waste included bras, condom packets, and loads of dumped clothing and shoes.

There was so much to do we ran out of time for the fitness session, which to some of you was a huge relief after last weeks session! But you all had a great work out on the task and we all really enjoyed the work and making such a big difference. There is more to do here and we will be back!
