6 runners ran 6k to help Abbeyfield of Westbourne
Well a storm was brewing this evening in Bournemouth as 5 runners met at the usual Flirt cafe for our weekly task....this week to help out local Abbeyfield Wessex of Westbourne.
After a catch up and chat we reluctantly headed out into the horizontal rain! Rain jackets fastened and brief warm up performed we shot off towards the pier and the prom. We then encountered our first challenge ....strong wind and rain making movement difficult! We made a quick dash towards the shelter of the Oceanarium to let the wind settle and catch our breaths ...wow! Summer had properly arrived! We then ran a couple of kms along the front in bracing wind and rain, a great workout !
Feeling much refreshed, we swung a right up middle chine and towards the main road of Westbourne and tonights task. Jilly the task owner was there to meet us and injured runner Ross also showed up to prove yet again what an eager GoodGymmer he is......fab effort! Caprice, Neil and Daryl quickly got to grips with the clearing and sweeping while Abi wanted power...pressure washer power. This was curtailed somewhat by the said pressure washer giving up the ghost half way through ...think the storm may have got to its circuitry too! Abi and Ross turned their attention to helping with the weeding and general tidying ... and then it was time to say our goodbyes. We love helping out here at Abbeyfield and much thanks to Jilly for being a very hospitable host....who provided water and towels for the runners..!...FAB!
We will return soon to help some more!
A quick dash up to Westbourne town then though the water drenched gardens with full streams and waterfall! Then the welcome sight of Flirt cafe and we were back...another job well done and awesome effort by all in the demanding conditions!
Daryl will be with you for a trip to Hope housing next week.....go well and i'll see you all in 2 :)
