Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Idura Hisham
My mission for today was to help out a lovely older gentleman with his grocery shopping. He gave me a rather straightforward but simple shopping list. Whenever I do these shopping trips, I quite like to ask for quite specific details about the items and what they prefer - so I can be sure to get exactly what they like and etc.
Mr R was quite a laid back guy, with not much preference, besides preferring wholemeal brown bread and long-life milk. And so I set out to the aisle of Iceland (a shop he preferred), with his shopping list in hand and Mr R wise words ringing in my head "Whatever is cheap and will make a good sandwich," - I stood at the aisle with all the deli meat for maybe 5-8 minutes, scrutinising and making sure I got the best deal for Mr R; choosing ham has never been so nerve-wracking.
As I anxiously knocked on his door and presented the toils, I await to see if he approves of my ham choice. He looked at it and said, "This isn't the cheapest one,".
He looked at the receipt and realised the price was lower than expected, and the ham:price ratio made it a steal, and with the grocery store throwing in a free carrier bag to boot! Finally, his frown turned into a smile and this bright sunny day somehow became even brighter.
