Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Greenwich runner
Sunday mornings are meant to be lazy. Lazy with lie ins. Lazy with lie ins and long breakfasts while reading the paper, or curling up in the sofa with a good book. Especially in winter. And if it's rainy.
Or not. Some Sunday mornings are meant to be spent outside doing some good. In nature. With like-minded people. Which was exactly what Julian and I did this morning.
When I arrived at the beautiful Westcombe Woodlands, Julian was already on his way with James, duly armed with forks and loppers, to the smaller sister garden up the road. Collecting a secateur, I swiftly joined them on what proved to be a gorgeous little gem, nested in the slopes between fancy backyards and the railway line. Our task was to cut down as much ivy, brambles and general greenness as we could, and we all got on with the task while chatting away. Ninety minutes quickly went by, during which we collected an enormous pile of cuttings and found no less than 7 balls (can you spot all of them in the picture?).
Just in time before the rain came down again, we packed the tools back in the shed and went off to enjoy the rest of our Sundays. Our help will be needed again next month, so come join us then and enjoy a little slice of heavenly peace in this beautiful corner.
