On a beautiful, but very chilly and frosty morning, 4 goodgymers made their way to Keresley Jubilee Woodland for an action packed session in the winter sun. This was a session organised by the local parish council and the city council’s park ranger team. It was great to meet new people and work alongside the community on this project which is helping maintain this woodland for use by the local community.
In a push to increase our miles for the January challenge, Katherine and Lil travelled by pedal power, whilst our new member, Ben, walked to the little pocket of woodland. Welcome to our goodgym community, Ben, and we look forward to seeing you at future tasks.
Jobs today included bramble control, raking and tea drinking so it was a good work out all round. Later in the afternoon, the park ranger showed us how to safely prune the trees in the woodland using loppers and small saws which was a great new skill to learn. We also learned to identify some trees by the bark patterns as some trees couldn’t be pruned at this time of the year.
By the end of the session, the woodland was looking much tidier and well maintained. Well done everyone; super work in chilly conditions.
