Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
One GoodGymer, Sam and his friend, Sam attended the Borough Food Cooperative on this Bank Holiday Monday.
Brian, Jenny, Sasha and Derek were present from the regular Borough Food Cooperative volunteering team.
There were loads of volunteers, but due to the bank holiday the Borough market delivery wouldn't happen as it was closed. Instead they were told a delivery by Felix Project would happen later in the session, so in the meantime, they did tasks they would normally leave when they have nothing to do.
Derek was sorting out teas in bags of 50 tea bags whilst Sasha joined us to measure out between 240-260 grams of cranberries. With two big bags of Ocean Spray dried cranberries to measure out, the team were busy for the first hour measuring out what felt like 100 bags! 👀
Finally, after kilos upon kilos of cranberries were sorted, we were tasked to sort through sauces that weren't used by Hello Fresh and Mindful Chef users. We had to categorise and sort them out. However, during this task, Brian called us all over as the Felix Project driver had arrived and had a huge delivery for us to carry into the crypt.
We sorted and stacked through all the items donated from wonky carrots to petit pois. This took us all half an hour.
After all of this was done, we were back at it with the sauces to finish off the session.
It's always a delight to help out at the Borough Food Cooperative when we can! 🙌💪
The food cooperative provides members with low cost food to help reduce food bills and tackle food insecurity. It also reuses surplus food to prevent food being thrown away.
