Report written by Emma (She/they/them)
I enjoyed a really nice couple of hours at the farm today. It started with turning and moving a tonne of compost and manure from one large storage bay to the next. We were often watched by very healthy and happy looking rats and every so often you could hear them doing something loud which sounded a lot like a barn dance. We tossed and turned the piles of mulch for around an hour and would regularly overturn innocuous looking patches which exemplified the carbon and nitrogen cycles where large quantities of steam would escape majestically (and stinkingly) all around us. It reminded me somewhat of spending time at the spa and stepping into the steam room… GORGEOUS!
After that, we headed to the yard to watch and encourage the goats to run and jump their way from their day pens to the barn for their evening meals and sleeping quarters. They joined one of the farm cats, two donkeys, two ducklings, one chick, lambs and sheep. All of the animals seemed clean and happy which is always reassuring.
We then picked nettles and fed them to Mars and Kat, the humongous pig couple. Apparently nettles are delicious to pigs and they certainly seemed to enjoy their post-supper serving of salad.
I was the only GG’er for this mission, which was totally fine because it was a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours but hopefully next time more people will be able to join.

Well done Emma, what a totally brilliant effort. We'll put our heads together to get some more planned in advance.

Gee, thanks Laura! I think I got special treatment because I was the only one there, but I think they’re always pretty happy to show you around if you make an effort and put in hard graft.
