Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)
๐ณ A group of GoodGymmers from York and Lambeth congregated for a post-parkrun community mission at Rowntree Park. Having come from either a yummy Knavesmire breakfast or another community mission for Collective Sharehouse, they were ready to get fit by doing good ๐
๐ฆ After transporting the equipment from the cafe storage to the new wildlife area, Christine quickly set us to work. While some scythed (after some individualised instruction), others shovelled sand to go at the bottom of the new pond, which had sadly suffered some damage. The sand went on quickly, followed by carpet, another liner, more sand and another carpet layer to protect from future damage (hopefully!) The shovellers then changed their material to woodchip, which they spread around the base of the trees and then along the paths. There was some task-swapping between shovelling and scything to work different muscles and with so many hands, the hour flew by and it was lovely to see the difference we'd made ๐ช
๐บ The wildlife area (including the bog garden we made a few months ago) looks great so I'd recommend a look if you're passing nearby any time soon. Oh, and Louise found a frog, so the local wildlife are clearly enjoying it too ๐ธ
โ With so much done, we'd all deserved a coffee and cake so headed to Cycle Heaven ๐
๐ It was really lovely to join our Lambeth pals for both a run and a task and we wish you all the very best for the 10k tomorrow. We'll be cheering the GG tops on extra loudly ๐
