We got here for 18:20. Me, Poppy, Louise and Ben. Paulette, the shift manager, welcomed and thanked us all for turning up and helping with the Foodbank today.
As usual we started setting up tables and started weighing the food items. All individual donations were unnamed and some were from Tesco's. There were 7 volunteers in total to sort out the food donations. 4 were from GoodGym, 2 from the host church and 1 from Amey. Around 19:50 myself and Paulette went around the back and made some extra space for Beans, Soup and Meat, and started marking some more to put them straight on to shelves, rather than marking first and put them on the shelf after.
Ben, Poppy and Louise started dating the other donations and sticking them on shelves after they had finished.
Around 20:20, Poppy helped Paulette to set up the cafe and we all finished by 20:35 with a group picture.
Paulette told me at the end that by her initial look at today’s items she thought we wouldn’t be able to finish on time, but we did. She was totally surprised that we mange to finish dating. We had gone beyond even that in the end as we were able to stack the shelves and even set up the cafe on time. So we might not have had our full quota of 8 goodgymers, the magic was in the number we had tonight.
A special mention for Ben in closing, as he is doing a 10k race on Saturday in Sutton Park. Give him a cheer to spur him on!
