Report written by Helen Alford (she/her)
Six Sheffield GoodGymers braved a night at the Emergency Services Museum to help them renovate old exhibit space.
Steve turned up slightly early as I was still eating my chips, so we had a natter whilst we waited for the others to arrive. Once everyone was in and we'd all got ready to paint, we followed our museum guide, Mick, upstairs to the room that needed painting. Annie, Steve and I set to painting the lower half of the walls. Kylee and Rachel were pretty keen to do the top halves, as this involved clambering up some exciting-looking scaffolding! We'd made good progress when Caroline arrived, so she found another role in tidying up the top floor of the museum. Hoovering, dusting, wiping... She wasn't even bothered by Mick's reports of ghosts haunting the corridor!
After around 40 minutes we'd covered both walls in the original plan. After a quick discussion with Mick, we decided to paint the other walls of the room as well. What can we say? We're a dab hand at decorating. Annie and I joined Caroline in cleaning the top floor when the painting was almost finished - finding time to take advantage of the museums' hands-on, interactive exhibits as we went.
After the final coat was applied, we had a final photoshoot in the Engine House to round off the evening. Four walls painted rather than two = twice as productive. Good work team!
