Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kash
The Fortune sent me towards Sainsbury's in Chiswick, which is not usually my starting location for Mr G's shopping mission, but rather its destination. There, to my surprise, I encountered a familiar figure... Mr G! He was on his phone, walking slowly and lugging a heavy trolley, and totally oblivious to me trying to make eye contact. After a few failed attempts, I felt like I was stalking him on his way home, so I waved and offered to haul his trolley to his house.
Mr G was surprised to see me around so early as he was convinced that I would come at 4 pm. At his house, I took his trolley upstairs to the kitchen, where Mr G unloaded... the groceries from Sainsbury's! He showed me his empty fridge and cupboards. The Bonnie & Clyde-themed cupboard his dad had built for Mr G looked particularly sad, with only two tins of tuna inside. Mr G had told me a month ago he wanted to purchase more tinned food as a backup, but he was too worried about GoodGymers' backs, so he decided to buy the beans himself. He unpacked 8 tins of baked beans and stacked them on the shelves where they fitted perfectly.
"This cupboard was made to store bean tins."
I insisted that I buy Mr G more tinned goods if he needed them and he didn't need to worry about my back. Mr G knew from the previous missions I was not the type that gives up on a challenge. We had a laugh when he imitated how I would call out a bar fight. Then he agreed I could help him stock up on tuna, sweetcorn and more beans. When he reached for his regular book of labels (his version of a shopping list), we chuckled again as he revealed he knew I was the GoodGymer who liked his shopping list so much that they stole it. The truth was even more incriminating: I stole one list and lost another! The perils of shopping often for Mr G!
On the way back with the groceries, I was dazzled by the sound of The Eye of the Tiger played on a sousaphone. If I told myself to take a photo of the shopping bags on my way back, I totally forgot about it after the sight of the brass instrument on the street. I haven't taken a photo of the bean cupboard hidden behind Bonnie & Clyde's poster either, but I can assure you it is now very well stocked!
