Trail running and treasure hunting
5 GoodGymers made their way to help the Mousehold Heath in Norwich.

Having just run 1.66 miles I spotted the welcoming sight of 5 bright red Goodgym t-shirts. I joined the group, slightly out of breath and red in the face ready for the quick briefing. Gloves were given out and before I could take a breath, we were off for an unexpected trail run! The heath warden led the way in first place followed by Bill, Jonathan (whose bum bag broke and fell off midway) and Rachel, with Kathryn in 5th followed by Katy (who had just eaten an ice cream and was not expecting a trail run). After weaving through the woods we arrived at the beautiful heath covered in heather. Our task was to remove any unwanted bracken but before that we were given a quick history lesson of the area going back 8000 years, including the time of The Tudors. We quickly set to work with Bill and Jonathan removing bracken on one side whilst Katy, Kathryn and Rachel pulled bracken and discovered an old snake skin on the other side! A dangerous looking knife was also discovered by the heath warden; a discarded weapon or a remnant of meal preparation in the woods?
Soon goodgym members swapped tasks as Bill, Katy, Kathryn and Rachel helped to fork together removed bracken to transport elsewhere for insects and wildlife. Suddenly it was 6:15pm, 15 minutes over our official task ending. It was time for trail run part 2. It was the same three at the front as before which led through to the finish however it looked like Katy managed to take 4th place at the finish followed by Rachel and Kathryn!
Before we left, Bill and Katy handed out raspberries which were much appreciated and very tasty. The running wasn't over yet though... it was time for the Raspberry Run to the pub (socially distanced) for chips and beer for Kathryn, Rachel and Jonathan. Two raspberries were unfortunately lost on the route there.
Mousehold Trail Run 2020 results:
1st - Heath Warden: 12 points 2nd - Bill: 10 points 3rd - Jonathan: 8 points 4th - Rachel: 5 points 5th - Katy: 4 points 6th - Kathryn: 3 points
Congratulations on Kathryn's 25th Good deed.
