Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

Not sure if it was the 4 or 5 coffees that I had due to a number of meetings in coffee shops throughout the day lol.. Or just the shear volume of positive energy that resonated from all of us (Yep he said it) but last night was most definitely one of my favorites runs this year.

Our task for the evening was to head back south to Open Age’s community hub, a space that is there specifically to cater for the needs of the more mature resident.

After a quick introduction to GoodGym for our new attendees we took a nice steady jog through Haymarket, passed St James and into Victoria. Some warm up exercises to get the blood pumping and some weaving in and out of people to get those joints ready for action.

We arrived in one piece and set about the task and hand.

We had 40 minutes to finish cleaning the areas that we didn’t manage to get to the week before AND then the fun would begin. Attack the Yoga mats that are used to keep the over 50s crew flexible and agile with clothes, sponges, vinegar and water, remove the dirt, hang to dry, when you’re finished start on the massage tables. 3, 2, 1, AND GO.

We danced, we sang, we cleaned, we scrubbed, we swept, we mopped, we smiled, 5 minutes to go, we pushed on and scrubbed some more ;-).

Its amazing how quickly 40minutes flies by when you quite simply enjoy it.

Walls cleaned, fridge clean, floor clean, yoga mats clean, massage tables, clean, tables clean EVERYTHING was clean. It was spotless. We said our goodbyes and promised to return soon.

Now for the fun. We headed into a near by block for an exercise I like to refer to as The Enemy. Your job is a simple one. Clear the stairwells and clear the landings. What does this mean and hear you cry. It means you sprint up one side of the block to very top, in this instance the 8th floor. You then run down one flight of steps and across the landing, down the other side, back across the landing down the other side…. You see where this is going. You then do it alllllllllllll over again AND SMILE.... Great intervals, great for technique and great for local residents. What are we doing is what they say, can we join? Where are you running to and why are you running? Here’s a snippet of what we’re up to….. Hopefully we will see them next week.

We arrived safely at the bottom of the block, regrouped a few deep breathes and we were off again, more intervals back to St James Park and some drills.

We all returned thoroughly exhausted yet smiling at the thought that not only had we worked out but we had assisted someone else for no other reason than we wanted to. This my friends is a beautiful thing.

Till next time…. As always please continue to do small things with great love.

Hopefully I will see you all on Saturday for some well earned beverages…. Happy 5th GG, Happy 5th…….
