Unfortunately I ran late for this community mission to help Thames 21 with unblocking the Burnt Oak brook. Even so Michael the Thames 21 officer was very welcoming and soon kitted me out in waders gloves and litter pickers. There were five of us looking to improve the stream removing rubbish and invasive plants. In particular Himalayan Balsam identified by its celery like stem and delicate little flowers. But don’t be fooled it will take over even knocking back brambles and nettles over a couple of years. With the help of more volunteers it is hoped to improve this area for the local people and wildlife. We hope to have regular community missions to support this activity.
