I finished work earlier than expected, so rather than turn up early for my first visit to Mrs C, I decided to take the opportunity to take a wander down the Spinney to the River Lea. It was a crisp but sunny afternoon, and getting in a few moments in the winter sunshine was a real treat. I arrived at Mrs Cs, and as instructed, retrieved the front door key from the key safe and let myself. It felt a bit strange as I walked up the stairs to the landing and although I called out I didn’t hear a response. I hoped I hadn’t taken Mrs C by surprise, but as I introduced myself she started to be reassured - especially when I took my coat off to reveal my red GoodGym shirt. She smiled and pointed out that she also had bright red on, and the ice was broken. She has Parkinson’s so very limited mobility so she was really pleased to have a visitor. We talked a lot about her family and how she had grown up in Luton. She talked about her different homes and how when she moved to her current flat she decided this would be her last move. She loves the flat and pointed out how nicely her nephew had decorated it , and the labels her daughter has made so that carers know where to find everything. As I was leaving she mentioned that she’s unable to carry a cup of tea… and I have promised that next time I go, if she wants I will make us both a nice cuppa. Looking forward to seeing her again soon.
